Kai Trump can count on plenty of well-known cheerleaders as she begins her first LPGA appearance later this week.

The 18-year-old athlete, who happens to be connected to a former US president, received a sponsor's invitation to participate at the Annika tournament in Florida.

The former president, an avid golfer, owns several courses worldwide and frequently matches against Kai.

"He's pretty good. I shouldn't elaborate but we have some close matches," she mentioned.

Kai explained that her grandfather, unable to come, told her: "Just stay calm."

"My grandpa basically suggested to compete and relax," she continued.

"In my eyes, he's just an ordinary family member. He can't make it this weekend. He's focused on world affairs, making him rather occupied."

While still amateur, Kai has competed in only three events in 2024 and maintains ranking 461 in the American Junior Golf Association rankings.

But she's able to seek guidance from Tiger Woods, romantically involved with her mother.

"He is the best player worldwide," the young golfer said.

"Additionally, he's a superior person. He told me to play, relax, adapting to whatever happens."

She'll challenge some of most prominent players in women's golf at the Annika, including second-ranked Nelly Korda, British Charley Hull, Lexi Thompson and last year's winner Lilia Vu.

Tournament organizers commented that her participation exposes the sport to wider groups, specifically among the next generation.

Kai has a massive following and has started her own fashion and living company.

The competition starts at late afternoon GMT.
