Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the early candidates in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was dismissed on the weekend following the team's ten-game without a victory beginning to the top-flight campaign.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have previous associations to the club - are among the options to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.

The manager is presently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a possible obstacle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the former Luton manager - who played more than 100 of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a leading contender for the position.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the club directors as they start the process of appointing a new head coach.

Gary O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected candidate, although he would be a surprising choice given he was sacked by Wolves in the previous winter.

The ex- West Ham midfielder is out of work which means Wolves would not need to provide any buyout fee.
