A Ton of Anime Updates Landed During the Festive Season

The Yuletide season present a wealth of activities much better than scanning the latest news: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on festive fare, and employing meditation skills to refrain from snapping at family members. It is wished you managed to do all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting developments emerged over the festive period, and should you missed some of them, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (In 2027)

Perhaps the biggest announcement, the widely-criticized troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to deter further production. The show will be back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they might as well have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be at the helm. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which might be a positive development. However, the main art for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, at this point, they could be mocking the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its work but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a reduced workload, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' affection and goodwill, and now fans are thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been running for years, and its sixth season was yet another excellent entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will probably air in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has given us critically acclaimed works of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two

Right after the conclusion of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a sequel. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific release date has yet to be revealed.
